The state of Indiana to the Sheriff of the County of Hancock: Greetings,
You are hereby commanded that you summon John Simmons if he may be found in your bailiwick so that he be and appear before the Honuourable Jeremiah Meek, Probate Judge in and for the County aforesaid on the first day of the next term of said court, at the Court House in the Town of Greenfield on the thirsday after the first Monday in March next then and there to show cause if any he can show, why a certain peace of land belonging to the Heirs and the widow of Jeremiah Meek, late of the County of Hancock deceased should not be sold on a decree of sale made at the next term of this court and of this fail not. And of this writ make due action accordint to Law

Sale Bill of land Jeremiah Meek, Jr. Dec. lot by Alfred Mulroy sold for two hundred and forty one dollars it being the lot ½ north west quarter of section no. four township no. fifteen range No. seven West. Quantity of Land 63 acres and twenty eight hundredths of an acre—one hundred and fifty dollars paid in hand and the balance to be paid in twelve months from sale, it being ninety one dollars.

This indenture made the third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two between Jeremiah Meek of the County of Hancock in the State of Indiana of the first part and Joshua Meek of the County and State aforesaid of the second part witnesseth that the said party of the first part, in consideration of the sum of twenty five dollars lawful money of the United States to him in hand paid by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold aliened (sic) convey and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever all that certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County and State aforesaid containing five acres it being a part of the west half of the southwest quarter of section thirty four township sixteen range seven beginning at the South east corner of said lot running north twenty three poles to the National road thence west with the line of said road thirty six poles and eight links thence south twenty one poles to the south line of said lot thence east thirty six poles and eight links to the place of beginning containing five acres more or less together with all the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining and all the estate right title claim and interest whatsover of the said party of the first part either in law or in equity of in and to the above described premises with the said hereditaments and appurtenances to have and to hold the premises above mentioned and described to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever and the said Jeremiah Meek of the first part doth for himself his heirs executors covenant grant and agree to and with the said Joshua Meek his heirs executors administrators and assigns that he the said party of the first part is lawfully seized in fee of the aforesaid granted premises that he is the true and lawful owner of said premises and hath good rightful power and lawful authority to sell and convey the same in manner and form aforesaid and further that he the said party of the first part for himself his heirs executors and administrators will warrant and forever defend the aforesaid premises with their appurtenances and every part thereof unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever against all lawful claim and demands of any person and all persons whomsoever.

Know all men that in Edgar Chittenden, Lyman Chittenden and Joseph Chapman are held and firmly bound unto the State of Indiana in the penal sum of two hundred dollars lawfull money of the State of Indiana with and truly to be made on condition following: ???
Whereas the above bounded E B Chittendem was this day appointed administrator of the estate of Jeremiah Meek , late of Hancock County by decree in the lou and place of Jared Chapman whose letters of administration on said estate have been revoked as by the court. Now should the said Edgar B. Chittenden well and truly discharge the duties of said administrator according to law to all intents and purposes then and in that case this bond will be void and null and none effect, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue in law and equity witness our hands and seals this sixteenth day of February 1833

At a sale of the personal property of Jeremiah Meek dec’d by Jared Chapman, Administrator on the 23rd day of April 1831, the following property was sold to wit:

Know all men by these presents that I Joshua Meek and George Troxel of Hancock County are held and firmly bound unto the State of Indiana in the final sum of three hundred dollars lawfull money of Indiana for the payments of which we bind ourselves, our heirs, executor and administrators firmly by these presents signed with our hands and sealed with our seals Aug 14, 1833. Which bonds is void on the following conditions whereas Joshua Meek is this day appointed by the probate court of Hancock County Guardian of the infant heirs and children of Jeremiah Meek Junior deceased. Now should the said men discharge all the duties assigned he run by the Law of Indiana as such Guardians then and in that case the bond to be void and null and of no Effect. This indenture made this nineth day of may in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty four between Joshua Meek of the County of Hancock in the State of Indiana of the first part and Eliza Ann Meek, John P. Meek, Levi Meek and Steven Meek the heirs of Jeremiah Meek Jr. Deceased of the County and State aforesaid of the second part witnesseth that the said party of the first part in consideration of the sum of one hundred fifty dollars lawful money of the United States to him in hand paid by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is herby acknowedged hath granted bargained sold conveyed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part their heirs and assigns forever all that certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Hancock and State aforesaid to wit beginning at the South east corner of the west half of the South west quarter of section thirty four in township sixteen Range 7.E Running thence north west with the line of said lot twenty three poles to the National road thence west with the line of said Road thirty six poles and eight links thence south twenty one poles to the south to the line of Said lot thence east thirty six poles and eight links to the place of beginning and apart of the East half of the same quarter and section above described beginning at the last mentioned corner running thence east twenty three rods thence North twenty one rods thence west twenty three rods thence South to the place of beginning containing eighty acres be the same more or less, to have and to hold the above described premises hereby sold and conveyed unto the said party of the second part their heirs and assigns forever together with all and singular the appurtenances therunto belong or in anywise appertaining to their own proper use and behalf and the said Joshua Meek for himself his heirs executors and adminstratrors will warrant and forever defend the aforesaid tract of land with its appurtenances and every part thereof unto the said party of the second part their heirs executors and administrators against the claim or claims of all and every person whomsoever. Hart a Justice of the Peace for said County personally came Joshua Meek the grantor named in the above deed of conveyance and acknowledged it to be his voluntary act and deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and the said Julia Ann Meek the wife of the said Joshua Meek having been by me examined separate and apart from her said husband touching the above deed of and the contents of the same on said examination being made known to her declared that the signed sealed and delivered the same of her own free will and accord without any coersion or compulsion of her said husband and that she thereby relinquishes all her right and claim to dower in the said premises,

Page 119 Joshua Meek guardian of the minor heirs of Jeremiah Meek Jr. dec reports to the court that he has sold his ward's real estate to Nathan Crawford and re-invested the proceeds in 40 acres of land. A receipt of Moses Meek, husband of Eliza Ann Meek one of the heirs is mentioned. Feb 1837

In an application for partition of real estate of Jeremiah Meek dec. are listed: Jonathan, Joseph and Joshua Meek and Joseph and Patience Young-his wife and Barlow, Jacob, Jasper, Jarah (Sarah?) and James Meek. The rights of Samuel Wollum an heir of Rachel Wollum dec. who was the wife of James Wollum, and also the interest of Eliza Ann Meek who is the wife of Moses Meek and John P., Levi and Stephen Meek heirs of Jeremiah Meek dec. are mentioned. May 15, 1838.
