He married Lydia Zartman on 06 Mar 1860 by the Rev. F. Watts. Lydia was born on 03 Sep 1837 in Northumberland Co., PA. according to a published history of that family. In The 1860 census George and Lydia resided in Rock Creek Twp, Carroll Co., IL. Living with them was Peter Brown, age 25. They are reported in the 1870 census of Rock Creek TWP with children Fulton and Ida.
About 1872 they moved to Boone Co., IA. They were reported in the 1880 census of Boonesboro, Boone Co., IA with children Fulton and Ida. His occupation was stone mason. Lydia died on 11 Oct 1890 at Virgil City, MO according to the family bible. George died on 10 Mar 1895 at Boonesboro, IA.

George and Lydia can be positively identified in the 1870 census of Carroll Co., IL
due their ages and names of their children. From there we see George and Lydia in the
1860 census living with Peter Brown and between two Moyer families.
Based on information that George was born in
Dauphin Co., PA The 1850 census of Dauphin County was searched. A person named George
Brown, age 15, living with Philip Moyer was found. The name George Brown was common in
1850 Pennsylvania. However, this was the only person named George Brown in Dauphin County.
Also in 1850 a person named Peter Brown, age 13, was living with Henry Moyer.
