16. William B. Meek was born 30 Jun 1829 in Greenup Co., KY. He was listed with his brother John in the 1850 census. He married Julia A. Tumbleson 11 Jul 1850 in Greenup County. She was born 29 Sep 1828. She died 20 Oct 1902. They were listed in the 1860 census of Jackson Co., MO.

William enlisted in the Company C, 7th MO Infantry, CSA. He was wounded and captured at the Battle of Helena AK on 4 Jul 1863 and sent to the federal prison at Alton, IL where he died of an infection 23 December 1863. (Information provided by Robert H. Meek.) Julia was listed in the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Greenup Co., KY with her children.

William’s connection to his likely father James Meek is based solely on proximity. Proximity does not prove a relationship. DNA from a descendant suggests that William Meek was related to the Meek family living in Johnson Co., KY during this same period. DNA from a descendant of John Meek born 1820, the assumed brother of William, does not match the Johnson County Meek family or any other Meek family. Since William’s connection to James Meek is not proven caution is advised regarding his relationship with John Meek, James Meek or any other Meek in Greenup County.
