He may be the John Meeks age 31 in the 1860 census of McLean Co., IL living with the Thomas Fagg Family. Also listed was Emery Sweezy age 30 who married John's sister, Angeline. He married Elizabeth Nickelson. She was born about 1837. They were listed in the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Blue Mound TWP, Linn Co., KS. In 1870 ELizabeth's mother, Mary Nickelson age 65, was living with them. They were listed in the 1900 census of Linn Co., KS.
