2. Richard Meek was born in 1801 according to census records. Census records are conflicting concerning his place of birth in either Ohio or Pennsylvania. He may be the person listed in the 1830 census of Woods County W. VA although this is not proven. Son John was reported in census records as being born in Virginia although this is not proven.

Richard married Catherine _______. Some genealogies indicate her surname was Johnson. This is not proven. They were listed in the 1850 - 1870 censuses of McLean Co., IL. In 1870 also listed were son Samuel, Ellen widow of son Richard, Richard, age 9, who may be a son of Ellen's by her first marriage. Also listed was an unnamed male age 2/12, who was Samuel, son of Richard.

  • 3. Barton Meek was born about 1827 in Ohio. He died before 1870. He married Mary Ann Sharrar. She was born about 1837 in Ohio. She is buried in Xenia (Secor) Cemetery. She married (2) Samuel Johnson. Mary Ann and Samuel Johnson are listed in the 1880 census of Eldora, IA. Residing with them was the two youngest children of Barton Meek. Barton and Mary Ann are listed in the 1856 Iowa census living in Eldora. They have not been located in the 1860 census.

They were listed in the 1910 census of Benton TWP, Beaver Co., OK with son Jay W. E. Meek age 16. Edith was listed in the 1920 census of Benton TWP, Beaver Co., OK with son Jay Meek.
    • 51. William E. Doolin was born Jan 1893. Also known as Jay Meeks. He was the son of Bill Doolin, the outlaw, and Edith Ellsworth. He was raised by Samuel Meek and Edith and took the Meeks name. He was in World War I, serving in France. After he returned from the war he lived with his mother until her death. Jay worked with the Continental Oil Co in Ponca City, OK. He married Gladys Dressel about 1929. She was born about 1912 in Oklahoma. They were listed in the 1930 census of Ponca City, Kay Co., OK. Also listed was her mother Ella Dressel.
