They built a saw mill and flouring mill, and also opened a nursery, where they developed the Royal Ann and Bing cherries. In 1853, Meek bought Lewelling's interest and operated the nurseries for years, selling trees all over the Willimette Valley, so it may be said that the Meek family became the father of the great Oregon fruit industry. He moved to San Lorenzo, CA in 1859 where he was a prominant citizen. His obituary mentions his brothers Robert, Isaiah and Joseph.
