In the winter of 1856, he, with his brother Milton, visited the home of Jefferson Meek in Schyler Co., MO where there was a newborn baby boy that was not yet named. By taking the middle names of these two brothers, Milton Fielding Meek was named. This boy became the father of Carleton Lee Meek, the writer of Meek Genealogy.

He married (1) Eliza Jane Hunt 22 Dec 1848 in Hancock County according to marrige abstracts. She was born about 1831 in Kentucky. She died on 13 Jul 1851 in Hancock Co., IN.

He married (2) Sarah Ann (Hester) Hunt 12 Aug 1852 in Hancock Co., IN. She was born on 13 Jun 1836. She died on 20 May 1925. She was a daughter of Herriman Hezekiah Hunt and Priscilla Willett.
